A diverse campus community enlarges the community鈥檚 world view and enriches classroom interaction. Valuing the contributions international students make to the campus community, the University has instituted scholarships for international students.

International Student Application Requirements

 

STEP 1 鈥 Complete free online application
  1. Undergraduate, first-year international students should complete the Common Application
  2. Graduate students can select the NDMU online application.
  3. For current prices see our Current Tuition & Fees. Also, plan ahead for these potential expenses:
    1. Tuition and Board for the January Winterim term (if staying on campus)
    2. Textbooks (estimated cost per semester $500)
    3. Additional room and board for summer (if staying on campus)
    4. Tuition, fees, and books during summer session
    5. Travel expenses from your home country to the U.S.
    6. Travel expenses during vacation periods
    7. Medical expenses not covered by health insurance
    8. Cell phone/data plan
    9. Off-campus transportation
    10. Other personal expenses
STEP 2 鈥 Submit all required documents
  1. Submit a course-by-course evaluation of transcripts for all secondary schools (please send grades with the coursework for the last four years of high school) and universities abroad performed by an NACES member provider. For evaluation services, view our transcript evaluation portal:
  2. If English is not your native language, submit the official results/scores from one of the following proficiency tests. These testing scores must come directly from the testing site to Processing@ndm.edu
    1. Submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores. Scores should be sent directly to 海角社区 by January for fall admission. TOEFL Code = 5114
    2. TOEFL iBT score of 80 or greater
    3. IELTS score of 6.5 or greater
    4. DUOLINGO score of 110 or greater
    5. SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 500 or greater (REQUIRED for all first-year applicants interested in Nursing)
    6. Proof of successful completion of an English composition course at a U.S.-accredited college or university (transfer students only)

Federal and state financial aid is not available to international students. However, limited institutional scholarships are available, as well as external scholarships and private/alternative student loans.

STEP 3 鈥 Check your application status

Check your emails frequently to see if you received an acceptance email from the university.

STEP 4 鈥 Commit to NDMU

To access your PURL, you can use these instructions:

  1. Use an internet browser (like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome)
  2. Enter the following: discover.ndm.edu/firstnamelastname
  3. Once on your PURL page, click the link 鈥淒eposit Now鈥
STEP 5 鈥 Follow the I-20 process
  1. Before a Form I-20 can be started, please be sure you completed STEP 4 鈥 Commit to NDMU.
  2. Complete an NDMU International Student Application Form providing the necessary information for the creation of an I-20.
  3. Complete an NDMU University International Student Financial Willingness Statement.
  4. Complete an NDMU University International Student Documentation Submission Form.
  5. Provide a color copy of your current unexpired Passport.
  6. Provide an official document signed by a banking official indicating the current amount of funds to be used for your cost of attendance at NDMU. All figures should be in U.S. dollars. For the current cost of attendance, please use the following link to our Financial Aid page: /undergraduate/admissions-aid/tuition-fees
  7. Undergraduate students will send the application materials to Carol McDaniel (cmcdaniel@ndm.edu). Graduate students will send the application materials to Jens Mueller (jmueller@ndm.edu).

NDMU will issue a Form I-20: Certificate of Eligibility of Nonimmigrant Student Status after all I-20 documents have been reviewed and verified.

STEP 6 鈥 Get the International F-1 Student Visa Stamp

International students must work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to obtain the international F-1 Student Visa Stamp which is needed to enter the United States.

  • Student (or delegate) will have to  with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. An electronic form I-797 is then issued as a receipt proving the fee was paid (note: no paper receipt will be issued).
  • Student completes the  and prints out the confirmation for submission to the U.S. embassy/consulate. (Canadian citizens do not need an F-1 visa to study in the USA but must have a valid I-20 and proof of payment of the SEVIS fee.)
  • Students then make an appointment with the closest U.S. embassy or consulate office for visa interview.
  • After the embassy grants the visa stamp (it may take four or more days for processing), the student can make travel arrangements for arrival in the U.S. (no sooner than 30 days before the I-20 鈥渂eginning鈥 date, and no later than that date).
