Interfaith Panel Promotes Religious Diversity and Unity
On February 6, 海角社区 will be hosting its annual 海角社区 Day celebration. Among the various activities, an interfaith panel discussion led by the Global Solidarity Committee that will share the U.N.鈥檚 compassionate message of inclusivity.
海角社区 Day is traditionally a day that recognizes the accomplishments of 海角社区鈥檚 (NDMU) students and the institution鈥檚 rich history. This year鈥檚 event will be held on February 6. Throughout the afternoon, there will be various activities that are tied into NDMU鈥檚 Mission to build inclusive communities and engage in service to others.
One such event is a panel discussion led by the Global Solidarity Committee (GSC). Every year, the GSC sponsor events dedicated to the United Nations鈥 (U.N.) Interfaith Harmony Week, which occurs during the first week of February. This year鈥檚 intercultural, interfaith panel is looking to share the U.N.鈥檚 compassionate message.
鈥淲e are excited to have these leaders on our panel,鈥 says GSC Chair and Chemistry Professor Dr. Angela Sherman. 鈥淭hey are dedicated to religious inclusivity and understanding, and as a result, I think it will lead to a great discussion.鈥
This year鈥檚 GSC panel of speakers will include Reverend Joseph L. Muth, Jr., Rabbi Sarah Marion, and Dr. Faheem Younus. It will take place on February 6, from 4-5:30 p.m. in Doyle Formal.
Reverend Joseph L. Muth, Jr.
Ordained in 1974; Has served in six parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore
Currently works as a Pastor at St. Matthew Church, which, in 2000, established the Immigration Outreach Service Center (IOSC)
Collaborates with Catholic Relief Services' Global Fellows Program, visiting various African countries like Kenya and Rwanda
Spiritual director of the parish outreach for gay and lesbian people; Program supervisor of LGBTQ Educating and Affirming Diversity (LEAD)鈥
Rabbi Sarah Marion
Graduated from Brandeis University in 2008 (Dual-Degree: Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies)
Later obtained an M.A. in Religious Education at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion
Ordained a Rabbi in May 2016 and completed two units of Clinical Pastoral Education in New York
Currently works as Assistant Rabbi at Temple Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, overseeing grades K-12鈥
Dr. Faheem Younus
Graduate of King Edward Medical College and Drexel University College of Medicine
Epidemiologist and Infectious Disease Specialist; Currently working at the University of Maryland
Leads the antibiotic stewardship program and works to prevent PPCs and MHACs
